Breedlove Guitars – The Authority on Acoustic Sound
OPTIMIZING THE SOUND OF YOUR MUSIC
Our Mission is simple and clear: to make your music, your sound, and your playing, better than you ever thought possible.
THE AUTHORITY ON ACOUSTIC SOUND
The pursuit of acoustic perfection is the driving force behind why we do what we do. Our MISSION: providing the player with the best sounding, best playing, most enjoyable acoustic guitar possible. With our Sound Optimization process we challenge everything and take nothing for granted. This is where design meets science, where craftsmanship challenges the status quo, where age-old wisdom is expressed and quantified, engineered and channeled into acoustic perfection.
WHAT IT IS AND HOW WE DO IT
Optimizing the sound of your music–thereby making you sound better, play better and enjoy playing more–is our goal. Explaining how we do this gets a little technical, a little nerdy – but here are the fundamental elements which contribute to Optimizing the Sound of Your Music with handcrafted acoustic Breedlove guitars.
THE ELEMENTS OF SOUND OPTIMIZATION
THE TONEWOOD CERTIFICATION PROJECT.
As demand on our world’s forests and environment grow, it is critical we build guitars using sustainable sourcing. We never use tonewood from clear-cut trees. Traveling throughout the world we go to the forests and work with local families and mills whenever possible. Sustainable sourcing is the right thing to do. You can play with the good feeling knowing your handcrafted acoustic Breedlove guitar was built in harmony with the natural world.
UNDERSTANDING VARIABILITY IN WOOD.
There’s tremendous variability in a forest, from the top to the bottom of a tree, up to 30%. Every single piece of tonewood must be considered unique. Why does this matter? If this variability is not addressed, the modern acoustic guitar is not living up to its sound potential. The finest instrument builders in history understood tonewood variability. Iconic builders employed hand-tuning and voicing to shape and pair tonewoods capable of taking sound to the highest degree of perfection.
OPTIMIZING THE POTENTIAL IN TONEWOODS.
If the hands which carved the greatest Stradivarious Violins strummed the guitar of today, they would ask, “Why isn’t the modern guitar living up to its potential?” Our coveted Sound Optimization™ Process and hand voicing makes it possible to handcraft guitars which account for tonewood variability. The result is stunning sound and tone strummed from guitars that play so well, you just can’t put them down.
BREEDLOVE PROPRIETARY BODY SHAPES.
At Breedlove, we design and handcraft the finest sounding, most comfortable playing, hand-crafted guitars. Instead of adopting traditional body shapes and following the status quo, we blaze our own trails – using our Sound Optimization™ process to create revolutionary new body shapes which are distinctly Breedlove.
THE BENEFIT IS SIMPLE
You will sound better, play better and play more on a handcrafted acoustic Breedlove guitar.
Tonewood Certification Program
As demand on our world’s forests and environment grow, it is critical we build guitars using sustainable sourcing. At Breedlove we never use tonewood from clear-cut trees. Traveling throughout the world we go to the forests and work with local families and mills whenever possible, going to the source to make sure our instruments not only play and sound better, but allow us to feel better about the instruments we play and love.
Projects Sourcing Principals:
- Salvage trees from the forest as dead/fallen or at the end of their lifecycle.
- Individually harvest trees in a manner that leaves the forest and ecological system as undisturbed as possible.
- Only use “treasured tonewoods” that are fully documented to be compliant with all CITES and Lacey Act regulations.
- Partner with tonewood suppliers who commit to our principles and provide documentation on the providence from where the trees grow to receiving the wood at our workshop.
All Breedlove instruments can travel throughout the world. Guitars crafted with our collection of Brazilian rosewood require a U.S. Fish & Wildlife permit for international travel – easily procured with our documentation. Sustainable sourcing is the right thing to do. You can play with the good feeling knowing your guitar was built in harmony with the natural world.
